Japan volleyball squad punches ticket to London Olympics

Serbia outlasted Japan in five sets (18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9) on the final day of action in the FIVB Women's Olympic qualifying tournament at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Sunday. The results assured both teams of a berth in the London Olympic Games.

'Population clock' forecasts no children after year 3011

Japan will no longer have children under the age of 15 in 999 years, a group of researchers at Tohoku University Graduate School has estimated.

Danger in the bath

An investigation into one of Japan's favorite pastimes — bathing — has found a startling statistic: 14,000 people a year die during bath time. That's nearly three times more deaths than from car accidents, 4,612 people.
